Sorry for not getting any posts up last week. Ill try to get a few up this week to make up for it.
Todays post makes use of two 300 gallon oval shaped stock tanks. Stacking them on top of each other makes this design very space efficient.
Due to the size of these stock tanks and the distance from one side to the other, I feel it is necessary to build a frame for the grow bed to rest on. This can built with some 2 x 4s, 4 x 4s & some plywood. I might consider using 2 x 6s in place of the 2 x 4s as well. The grow bed will be extremely heavy when full of aggregate and H2O. (300 gallons of water weighs 2,502 pounds!!!!!)  I would build the frame with heady duty bolts and brackets for added strength. Since this design has such a large growing area it would be ideal for growing larger crops, such as papayas. (I have been wanting to try my luck with growing my own coffee beans; I bet they would grow great in this system) If you have the room, you could add another 300 gallon stock tank to this design and have the grow bed drain into it. You could use this tank as a DWC bed and then just have it connect to the fish tank. This would reduce the water drop in the fish tank every time the grow bed floods. To keep the fish from swimming into the DWC bed just cover the connecting pipe with some sort of screen material.

Let me know what you guys think and if you have any design inputs in the comments. I spend a lot of time making these and every model is to scale and every measurement is exact. You can literally open the file, use the measuring tool and get every exact measurement you need to build this unit. I will put the link to download the SketchUp file at the bottom of the post. If you choose to download the file or if you just like the blog and would like to see more stuff like this, please leave a comment or share the blog on one of the social media site links below. It really helps me out and the more the blog grows, the more cool stuff Ill be able to share with you. (Build it at your own risk of course, Im not your daddy nor am I responsible for you. These are just fancy drawings and I cant guarantee they will work, they are here to try to help you out in your aquaponic endeavors)
Hope you enjoy!
