Happy Friday everyone! Todays SketchUp Archive is a new stock tank design. There are a number of aspects I take into consideration when designing a new system; these include safe materials (wont leach anything into the system), automation, efficiency, longevity, and aesthetics just to name a few. It is because of this that I design the majority of my systems based around stock tanks. Stock tanks are very easy to come by, they are fairly cheap, the ones I use are HDPE (food safe plastic), they are designed to last many years of sitting in direct sunlight, they are very durable, they are easy to work with and they can easily be dressed up and look quite nice in your backyard.
This particular system utilizes a 150 gallon stock tank for the fish tank and a 70 gallon stock tank for the grow bed. To be as space efficient as possible, the grow bed is positioned directly over the fish tank. This is made possible by a custom fabricated metal frame. The frame is made of 2 inch square tubing. It will take some basic welding to make a frame like this. There is 3/4 inch plywood covering the fish tank with an access panel to the fish in the center. The wood can be stained and/or painting to a color of your choice. An insulating vapor barrier will protect the bottom side of the wood exposed to the fish tank water. This will prevent the growth of mold on the wood as well as help insulate the fish tank.

Let me know what you guys think and if you have any design inputs in the comments. I spend a lot of time making these and every model is to scale and every measurement is exact. You can literally open the file, use the measuring tool and get every exact measurement you need to build this unit. I will put the link to download the SketchUp file at the bottom of the post. If you choose to download the file or if you just like the blog and would like to see more stuff like this, please leave a comment or share the blog on one of the social media site links below. It really helps me out and the more the blog grows, the more cool stuff Ill be able to share with you. (Build it at your own risk of course, Im not your daddy nor am I responsible for you. These are just fancy drawings and I cant guarantee they will work, they are here to try to help you out in your aquaponic endeavors)
Hope you enjoy!
